A systematic examination of the concepts of nursing, human beings, health and environment as the basis for the advanced practice of nursing in a variety of healthcare settings. Includes an analysis of major theories of nursing, the nature and use of theory, the process of theory construction, the implications of theoretical formulations for nursing practice, and the development of a personal theory of nursing. | NURS 508. BIOLOGICAL TREATMENTS FOR PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS. (3, 0, 3). Current molecular, developmental and environmental perspectives are examined considering inherited and acquired vulnerabilities to mental illness. Disruptions leading to mental illness are studied from a broad overview of balanced and functional brain anatomy and physiology. Psychopharmacological and other biological therapies for mental illnesses based on current science and practice standards are detailed with emphasis on optimal outcomes and primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
