Welcome from the Dean

Welcome to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions. I am honored that you have chosen to know more about our nursing and allied health programs. This is an exciting and opportune time to be in a health care discipline. Due to the critical shortage of clinicians/practitioners and educators, numerous options are available for future health care professionals. The job market offers a wide variety of work settings, excellent salaries, and advancement opportunities.

At the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, our mission is to prepare students to assume leadership roles in the advancement of the practice of nursing and allied health and to be responsive to the needs of culturally diverse consumers of health care. The degrees offered by the college include a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN), a master of science in nursing (MSN), a bachelor of science in dental hygiene (BS), which is a joint degree in affiliation with the School of Dentistry at Louisiana State University Health Science Center, and a bachelor of science in dietetics (BS). At the undergraduate level we offer the Mobility In Nursing Education (MINE) track, designed for RNs and LPNs. A fast-track in nursing BSN program for second degree seeking students is also offered at the undergraduate level. In addition, students with a bachelors degree in dietetics from across the country, can apply to the dietetic internship (DI) program.

In 2001, the College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions celebrated fifty years of excellence in nursing education. We have a long history of active engagement with community partners and leaders in meeting the challenge of providing quality education to our students. Our baccalaureate nursing program is ranked one of the fifth largest programs in the USA. We are leaders in technological teaching methodologies. Students engage in computer assisted learning activities and web-based instruction across all curriculum levels. Human patient simulators are utilized in clinical and classroom teaching. Students’ performance on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is truly remarkable. Over the past 20 years, our pass rate on the NCLEX-RN averages 97% for approximately 2,000 first-time writers of the NCLEX-RN. This reflects greatly on our students’ academic abilities and commitment to learning, as well as the expertise of the faculty. The graduate program is proud to proclaim a 100% pass rate on The National Certification Exam for Nurse Practitioners since 1997. Students are provided innovative learning opportunities to develop knowledge base and skills in both institutional and community settings. The curriculum emphasizes the development of leadership and management competencies building knowledge base and a strong nursing practice philosophy.

All nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, and the Dietetics program, by the Commission of Dietetic Registration through The American Dietetic Association.

We are extremely proud of our students, alumni, community partners, and educational programs at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
