APPLICATION INFORMATION |

| Mission Statement/Program Philosophy | ||||||
| To prepare and train the entry-level dietetic practitioner in the most extensive individualized, professional, and comprehensive manner to meet the standard of excellence established by the Commission on Accreditation of Dietetics Education. | ||||||
| Curriculum | ||||||
| The degree of Dietetic Internship is designed to provide advanced study in nutrition and the opportunity for research. | ||||||
| Type of Program | ||||||
| The type of program is a full-time Dietetic Internship granted accreditation. | ||||||
| Length of Program | ||||||
| The Dietetic Internship is designed to last approximately 40 weeks. The practice begins in July and ends in early May. Each week, interns rotate in various sites for 36 hours and attend 3 hours of continuing dietetics education class work. | ||||||
| Prior work experience and additional course work in the areas of dietetics, prior learning and credit toward program requirements are not assessed nor awarded to the prosepective or currently enrolled dietetic intern. | ||||||
| Number of Students | ||||||
| A maximum of six (6) qualified interns are appointed annually. | ||||||
| Cost to the Student | ||||||
| Beginning Fall 2010 the cost of the Dietetic Internship Program will be $5,000 total or $2,500 each semester for resident interns, and $9,000 or $4,500 each semester for non-resident interns. This fee covers tuition costs and it is also used to help defray program expenses and/or enhancements. It may also cover other special costs or events. There is a non-refundable application processing fee of $30.00 which is submitted with the DI application packet. | ||||||
| The intern is not classified as a full time or graduate student, thus does not qualify for financial aid, loan deferments, scholarships and/or other monetary support through the University Dietetic Internship Program. | ||||||
| Accreditation/Approval Status | ||||||
| The University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Didactic Program in Dietetics is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2000, Chicago, IL 60606-6995, 312/899/0400 ext. 5400. | ||||||

| Computer Matching Statement for Application Materials | ||||||
| All applicants to Dietetic Internships (DI) must participate in computer matching. Applicants should request instructions and a mark/sense card to prioritize their DI preference. Applicants should request this material from an ADA-approved Didactic Program in Dietetics or from D&D Digital Systems. This request should be made to allow turn around time for submitting by a February 14 postmark deadline. There is no charge for this material. However, there is a $50.00 charge for computer matching that is due with the applicant’s prioritized ranking. | ||||||

| Expected Competence to be Attained by Graduates | ||||||
| Upon successful completion of the Dietetic Internship Program, the graduate will be competent for entry-level practice in the areas of clinical, community, food management, and nutrition education. The students will be eligible to take the registration exam for dietitians and become an active member of the American Dietetic Association. | ||||||
