Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS-HCP)
Information for Nursing Faculty
 
 
The American Health Association’s BLSHCP course is offered on campus to clinical nursing faculty at the beginning of each fall and spring semester through the Continuing Nursing Education Program.
Re-certification is required every 2 years.

Faculty members are required to provide proof of this training to Dr. Lisa Broussard, Department Head.
BLS-HCP instructors are Faye Blankenship, Dr. Mary Neiheisel, Frances Stueben, Cheryl Mack and Kathy Ardoin.
 
 
The process for nursing faculty re-certification is as follows:
  1. Contact the Continuing Nursing Education office to register – 337/482-5648.
  2. Review the American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care at the following URL:

  3. Watch Health Care Provider CD program – (this is a watch and practice program).
  4. Skills practice on manikins.
  5. Successfully complete written exam.
  6. Successfully complete skills check-off with BLS instructor.
 
The Health Care Provider course includes CPR for the adult, child, and infant (one and two person rescuer CPR), techniques for relieving choking in infants, children and adults, and use of the AED.
